The Intersection of Opioid Abuse, Overdose, and Suicide: Understanding the Connections
A two-part webinar series from SAMHSA’s Center for the Application of Prevention Technologies (CAPT) and Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC) that explores the connections between opioid abuse, overdose, and suicide. The first webinar examines current research on the relationship between these problems, discusses opportunities for cross-sector collaboration to address them, and describes examples from the field where this work is already underway. The second webinar explores common characteristics among people with chronic pain, challenges they often face, and factors that place them at increased risk for adverse outcomes. Expert presenters also discuss strategies, including non-pharmacological approaches, for reducing the risk of opioid overdose and suicide in this population, and explore barriers to receiving care.
