Mery Vargas Mares

About

I’m a bilingual (Spanish/English) Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, clinical supervisor, meditation teacher, and lifelong educator with over 20 years of experience in education, counseling, and mental health. My professional journey began as a teacher and school counselor before transitioning into clinical mental health and opening my private practice, Yellow Mariposa Soul Therapy.

My clinical approach blends evidence-based practices with compassion, curiosity, creativity, and cultural humility. I specialize in grief and loss, trauma, life transitions, and relational dynamics, integrating EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, attachment theory, family systems, and mindfulness into my work.

My supervision philosophy is grounded in a non-fear-based approach to learning and professional growth. I believe emerging therapists thrive when they feel safe to ask questions, make mistakes, explore uncertainty, and develop their own authentic clinical voice. My style is warm, collaborative, experiential, and reflective, balancing clinical accountability and ethical practice with curiosity, creativity, and compassion.

What I enjoy most about supervision is witnessing interns grow in confidence, self-awareness, and clinical intuition. I encourage interns to look beyond symptoms and diagnoses, embrace the complexity of the human experience, and remain curious about both their clients and themselves.

Above all, I hope to create a supervision space where interns feel supported, challenged, and inspired to become thoughtful, competent, and authentic therapists.
