About CASAT

The Center for the Application of Substance Abuse Technologies (CASAT) is a Center within the School of Public Health at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Since 1993, CASAT has provided culturally and linguistically appropriate, research-based training and technical assistance activities for the behavioral health, prevention, treatment, and peer recovery support workforces at the national, regional, state, and local levels. CASAT’s primary mission is to improve mental health and substance use disorder prevention, treatment, and recovery support services by helping states, jurisdictions, tribes, communities, organizations, students, and the existing workforce effectively implement and sustain research-informed and emerging practices and interventions. This is achieved by using innovative technology transfer methods to deliver highly tailored and culturally appropriate training and technical assistance services in: working with diverse cultural and racial/ethnic stakeholders; providing services, and distributing informational materials in remote, rural, frontier, and urban areas; coordinating, sponsoring, and teaching university-based academic courses using both in-person and online formats; offering in-person and online continuing education trainings; developing podcasts to reach a broad audience; developing and disseminating web-based and electronic products, including project-specific websites and holding local, regional, and national conferences.
