April Lang-Barroga

About

I am a licensed therapist, clinical supervisor, and behavioral health leader with nearly two decades of experience serving individuals, families, and communities across Northern Nevada. As Executive Director of Nevada Behavioral Health Systems and a doctoral student in Forensic Psychology at Walden University, I bring expertise in mental health, substance use disorders, trauma, crisis intervention, problem gambling treatment, and community-based behavioral health services. My clinical work emphasizes trauma-informed care, recovery-oriented treatment, therapeutic jurisprudence, and integrated approaches to complex behavioral health needs. Throughout my career, I have held leadership positions in outpatient treatment, recovery services, and community mental health programs while remaining actively involved in advocacy, professional development, and workforce training. I am committed to advancing equitable access to behavioral health services and mentoring the next generation of clinicians through supervision, education, and evidence-based practice. The ideal clinical intern for me would be a an individual with a master’s in mental health counseling or marriage and family therapy OR bachelor’s in social sciences with a strong interest in behavioral health, addiction treatment, trauma-informed care, and forensic or criminal justice-related populations. This intern would demonstrate professionalism, cultural humility, emotional intelligence, and a willingness to receive clinical supervision and feedback. They would be interested in working with adults experiencing co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, crisis-related concerns, trauma histories, gambling-related problems, and involvement with community systems. The intern will have strong communication skills, a commitment to ethical practice, and a desire to develop competencies in assessment, treatment planning, evidence-based interventions, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Individuals interested in leadership development, program evaluation, community behavioral health, or therapeutic jurisprudence would be particularly well-suited to benefit from April’s clinical expertise and supervisory experience. I have also mentored interns who operate from different therapeutic modalities that provides a safe space for us both to learn and grow together.
